Leh Manali Trip

Itinerary: Delhi(1N) – Kalka – Shimla(2N) - Dharamshala(2N) – Manali(1N) – Keylong(1N) – Sarchu(1N) – Leh(2N) – Nubra Valley (1N) - Leh (2N) – Delhi(1N)

DAY 01: DELHI
Leh Manali Tour Tour begins with arrival in Delhi airport. On reaching airport, tour company representative will meet us to assist on transfer to hotel in Delhi. On reaching hotel, all travel documents will be handed over to us and required information will be briefed to us. As per available time, we may use the remaining either by doing limited Delhi city tour, shopping or just relax for rest of the day in hotel.

DAY 02: DELHI - SHIMLA (370kms/07:30hrs)
In this day we will undertake transfer from Delhi to Shimla. Journey from Delhi to Shimla goes via Kalka. We have two way to go from Delhi to Shimla. First is to take taxi transfer in which we will drive from Delhi to Shimla. Second option is to take train from Delhi to Kalka and later enjoy narrow gauge heritage train journey from Kalka to Shimla (96kms). This toy train is declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It runs with a speed of 19kms/hr which means 5-6hrs long journey. Here we will assume second transfer option to include toy train tour which offers great views of hill areas. On reaching Shimla, taxi will transfer us to our hotel. Rest of the time will be at leisure in hotel.

DAY 03: SHIMLA
In this day we will do full day Shimla city tour. It is a capital city of Himachal Pradesh state and was summer capital of India during British India time. City name Shimla is derived from local goddess Shyamala Devi. Till year 1819 Shimla was a mid-sized village and after that British officers started visiting it for holidays and later it gained popularity among British India officers and construction work initiated and continued till many decades. Presence of such British India time buildings made this city called "The Heritage City". It is also a tourism hub as it is surrounded by series of tourist destinations around it like Kufri, Manali, Dharamshala etc. Here we will visit Kufri, Shimla Mall road, state museum, Christ Church on ridge.

DAY 04: SHIMLA -DHARAMSHALA (250kms/06:00hrs)
In this day we will drive from Shimla to Dharamshala in north-west direction. It is better known for residence of Dalai Lama in McLeodGanj and Central Tibetan Administration (Tibetan government in exile). Dalai Lama reached this place in May,1960. It is a beautiful place in upper reached of Kangra valley, surrounded by dense forest of Deodar cedar trees. Recently it came in map of cricket world with the introduction of Dharamshala Circket Stadium in which domestic and international matches have been held.

DAY-05: DHARAMSHALA
In this day we will do full day Dharamshala sightseeing. Dharamshala tourist attractions includes Kangra Art Museum, Kangra fort, Norbulingka Institute, Tsuglag Khang complex, Namgyal monastery, Gyuto Monastery, Bhagsu fall, Dharamshala War Memorial. Their is Dal lake in which we can enjoy boatride, surrounded with Deodar trees. Here trekking can be enjoyed as their are number of trekking trails in this region where we can perform our trekking skills.

DAY-06: DHARAMSHALA - MANALI (240kms/06:00hrs)
After breakfast, we will proceed from Dharamshala to Manali. Distance from Dharamshala to Manali is about 240kms and this journey offers some great scenic views of hilly terrains, valleys, rivers, forests. Manali is a popular honeymoon destination at an altitude of 2050 meters in Beas river valley. On reaching Manali, relax for sometime in hotel. In evening we will visit Hidimba Devi temple and Old Manali town.

DAY-07: MANALI - ROHTANG PASS - KEYLONG (135kms)
In this day we will drive from Manali to Keylong. We will start from early morning so that we will be able to cover on the way tourist destinations and spend some time their. First we will reach Solang Valley which is a popular place for leisure activities during Manali sightseeing. It is 14kms north-west of Manali. Here we can enjoy horse ride, zorbing, rope-way ride, paragliding etc in summers and skiing in winters. After this we will further drive towards famous Rohtang Pass (closed in winters). It is a high mountain pass that connects Kullu valley with Lahaul & Spiti valley. It is located on eastern Pir Panjal range. Here we will notice the religious change also as Kullu valley shelters Hindu culture where as Lahaul Spiti valley shelters Buddhist culture similarly Kullu valley is more green and forested than arid Lahaul Spiti valley. This drive will offer us some best panoramic views of Himalaya peaks. Here we will do small journey break for photography. It season time it remains full of tourist vehicles. After this, we will proceed straight to Keylong via Gramphu and Koksar. On reaching their, just relax for rest of the time in hotel/cottage.

DAY-08: KEYLONG - LEH(360kms/10:00hrs)
In this day we will do half-day tour to Buddhist monastery like Khardang monastery which is largest one in Lahaul. It is 12th century monanstery about 5kms from Keylong on a mountain slope, across the Bhaga river. It belongs to the Drukpa (red hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. After this we will visit Tayul Gompa, about 6kms east of Keylong. It is the oldest monastery with huge library and a 12 feet statue of Guru Padmasambhava. It was established in 17th century by Drugpa Lama and later renovated after 100 years with murals and extension work. After this we will proceed towards Sarchu in north-east direction. On reaching Sarchu, relax at hotel/camp. It is a popular night halt point on Manali - Leh route. It remains closed on winters.

DAY-09: SARCHU - LEH (250kms/07:30hrs)
In this day we will move further from Sarchu to Leh. It is a challenging route with panoramic views of arid landscapes. On this route, we will also pass through Hemis national park. By evening we will reach our hotel in Leh. After reaching Leh, we will just relax at our hotel. In Ladakh region, Leh is the important city and one time capital of Ladakh kingdom. It has airport facility having direct flight connectivity with Delhi. It is a high altitude (3524 meters) region. In evening we will do local city visit and do some shopping in local market.

DAY-10: LEH
In this day we will not undertake any long excursion tour and do sightseeing within Leh town and its nearby places. After morning breakfast, we will drive back to Leh. In this day we will do Leh sightseeing which was not yet done. Leh is surrounded by many old but popular monasteries (Gompas) which are not in city but can be visited as excursion tour. At first we will visit Hemis monastery which is 45 kms south of Leh. It is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Drukpa lineage. It is existing since 11th century. Famous Hemis festival in June is one of the popular event to witness during Leh Ladakh tour package. This monastery was re-established in year 1672 by Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. Later while returning back from Hemis monastery, we will visit another popular monsatery i.e. Thiksey monastery which is about 25 kms north from Hemis monastery and 20 kms south from Leh. Thiksey monastery gives the resemblance of Potala palace in Lhasa in Tibet. It is a 12-storyed complex where we can find stupas, statues, thangkas, swords, wall paintings etc. Among statues at this monastery, we can see one 15 meters high statue of Maitreya (future Buddha) which is largest such statue in Ladakh. Later in evening we will visit famous Leh palace which is modeled on Patola palace of Lahasa. Here Royal family of Lakadh kingdom lives till 19th century. It is a 9 storyed building with house, stables, store rooms etc. Now it is abandoned and maintained by Archaeological Survey of India. It can be visited from inside during visitor hours. Later return back to hotel in Leh.

DAY-11: LEH - NUBRA VALLEY
Begin the day with drive to Nubra valley Nubra valley via the world's hightest motorable road (5602 meters) Khardungla pass. It is located in north of Leh town and seen as a gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valley. Khardungla Pass was built in year 1976 to strategically important Siachen Glacier from rest of India. This road is used developed to ensure regular supplies to Siachen region. Till year 1988, it was for military use only but later it was opened for public vehicles. This pass is maintained by Border Roads Organization of India. Through this pass we will reach beautiful Nubra valley. It is a tri-armed valley located on 145kms north-east of Leh. Actual name of Lumra valley is "Ldumra valley" which simply means "Valley of Flowers". Here Shyok river (tributory to Indus river) meets Nubra river (tributory to Shyok river) here to form a large valley that separates Ladakh from Karakoram ranges. For visiting Nubra valley, non locals (tourists) need to collect a Permit issued from DC office in Leh town. Nubra is a high altitude cold desert where vegetation is very less still we can see the valley with wild flowers. Here we can find local fields where agriculture is done to produce wheat, peas, mustard, barley, fruits, nuts etc. The Bactrain camel (Double hump camel) and wild flowers are the unique attractions of this place. Here majority of villagers are followers of Buddhism. Camel ride on sand dunes offers a unique experience. We will also visit local Diskit monastery of 14th century.

DAY-12: NUBRA - ALCHI (180kms/05:00) - LEH
In this day we will undertake morning drive from Nubra valley to Alchi. This will be a drive in south-west direction, via Leh. On the way to Alchi, we will visit Basgo castle. Alchi is a small village with Buddhist monastery which is popularly known by the name of "Alchi Monastery". Unlike other gompas situated on hill tops, Alchi is located on lowland. It is popular for 11-12th century paintings in Indo-Himalayan style. Here tourism is the main source of earning for local people. In evening, we will drive back to our hotel in Leh so that for next day Pangong lake tour, we need to travel less, otherwise night stay can be made at homestays available in Alchi.

DAY-13: LEH - PANGONG LAKE (230kms) - LEH
In this day we will visit Pangong lake which is located in 240kms south-east of Leh town. After having breakfast, we will drive to Pangong lake. It is another must see place during Leh Ladakh tour. It is a endoreic lake in the Himalays situated at a height of about 4350 meters from sea level. It is about 134 kms long and 5 kms wide from India to Tibet (60%). During winter this lake freezes completely. Due to its saline water, aquatic life is not present in this lake. Later in evening return back to hotel in Leh. In evening, do some shopping.

DAY-14: LEH - DELHI (Flight)
Take morning flight from Leh to New Delhi. On reaching Delhi, transfer to hotel. Rest of the day will be at leisure.

DAY-15: DELHI - Departure
This will be our last day of tour package. We may do some local city tour or shopping. Later drop to airport for departure.
